The Tortoise and the Hair

It's time again to head to the Big Apple for a buying trip. I like to do a little sleuthing before I head out–check out what my favorite designers are up to. I'm curious to see where home design is heading. I have my own ideas, of course, but being in line with the bigs is always intriguing.

Then aside from the creative curiosities, there's the serious business of buying. I'm still a believer in risk, but the calculations have become more important and complicated. Anywhoo - that's not entirely what I started out to say.

Awhile back, I was checking out the Barbie House in Malibu that Jonathan Adler designed. Nest has been a fan of Adler for some time. His quirky translation of by-gone styles is fun, and even inspiring. One choice, though, I couldn't bend to. No matter how hard I tried, I thought it was weird. It was the Barbie Hair chandelier. Yikes.

I guess by comparison, one can only take the musings of such designers in stride. Everyone knows you don't walk down the street in the same ensemble that's shot for the pages of Vogue, so there's some relative license that's allowed, I guess, for the sake of creativity. But still.

On to what I drooled over! This lamp. There were 2 lamps I loved from this collection, but by far my favorite was this tortoise luminary. Elle Decor and Mertopolitan Home both touted this beauty. Classic meets contemporary. Quite fetching, wouldn't you say?
